Why take a food supplement?
Supplements help to provide us with extra nutrition and enhance our health and well-being.
By eating a healthy diet, we should be able to get all the nutrients that we need, however, it is possible that even with an appropriate diet we might fall short of all or some of the necessary vitamins, minerals and proteins for our body to function at optimal levels.
There are many factors that can alter the absorption of nutrients – the natural aging process and our busy lifestyles are a few factors along with:
- Alcohol consumption reduces the absorption of B vitamins, Vitamin C, most minerals, and antioxidants.
- Allergies and infections reduce the absorption of Vitamin C and zinc among other nutrients.
- Smoking diminishes the absorption of antioxidants.
- Stress reduces the absorption of all nutrients especially B vitamins and Vitamin C.
Supplements are intended to do improve the ratio of micronutrients, e.g. minerals and vitamins to macronutrients, e.g. carbs and fats and will help to boost cells, promote health, protect, regenerate and support the renewal process.
